Busy Weekend

On Sunday we headed down the mountain again and went to Washington Park in Denver to hang out. We met our friend Deb there, and Shilah had fun playing with Deb's daughters, Maggie and Alex! After the park we met Gabe, Andrea & Emory at the Watercourse, an awesome vegetarian restaurant.

Playtime for Everyone

Saturday we went to Gabe & Andrea's to hang out. Gabe, Shanti, and Brandon (a friend from Massachusetts) had their own play date helping to build a new deck. While this was going on Andrea, me, and the kids had a fun play date at the zoo! Shilah and Emory had a great time in Emory's new combination bike trailer and stroller.

Letterheads

Here's Serena having fun with toy letters all over her head. Check out the bottom picture of Shilah...

Here's Shilah when she was a little over a year old. She is much more serious than Serena!

Boomerang

We are down to one cat these days-- a little strange since we used to have four! Tinkles was the oldest and has outlived them all. We got him as a stray, and we're guessing he's between 15 and 2o years old. We know... you're probably saying to yourself "he looks dead already," but he still has a lot of spunk! He can still jump onto the couch and off of the kitchen counter. He doesn't groom himself very much, so he ends up getting a lot of mats in his fur even though I brush him nearly every day. He spends his days meowing for canned food, and sleeping by the toilet and under the table. His meowing can get quite annoying, so sometimes we put him outside and secretly wish he would run away, but that darned old cat climbs over the 6 foot dog pen fence and comes back in through the dog door! Hence the nickname "Boomerang"-- he keeps coming back! There have been a few times when we thought he was knocking on Heaven's door, but he really does keep bouncing back.

Party at Tiny Town!

This past weekend we took Shilah to a friend's birthday party at Tiny Town, a cute little kids' place that has miniature houses, a train ride, playground, and picnic area. We all had a great time!

Shilah with the birthday girl... they both look a little mad but they really did have a lot of fun!

Dancing Sisters

Here are Serena and Shilah dancing to music from their Little People Disco Dance Party CD. Serena's got it going on with the rock back & forth, while Shilah's getting down with her pom-poms. Listen for when she says, "Shake that pom-pom!"

Why?

Shilah has officially entered into the asking "Why" phase. Most of the time it's nice because it shows her curiosity and makes me & Shanti think of some good answers. However, it can get a bit grating on the nerves when we know she knows the answer and is just asking "Why" repeatedly for the heck of it. That's when we say, "Well why do you think?"

Soaking up the Sun

Here are Shilah and Serena enjoying the morning sunshine. Shanti made a CD of songs about the sun, and Shilah has her own special dance to "Walking on Sunshine."
No sun this morning, though-- we woke up to 6 inches of snow. You gotta love those Colorado spring storms!

Fun in the Backyard

Shanti got back into town Monday night after being gone on two separate trips, almost a week. So Shilah, Serena, and I tried to keep busy! Sunday we went and hung out at Gabe & Andrea's and played with Emory's new water toy and sandbox.

Shanti is glad to be home, even though it was a great trip. President Bush was in Greensburg the same time Shanti was. This past Sunday, Bush spoke at a high school in Greensburg. Here is an article: http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/04/bush.kansas/index.html We are so proud that Shanti is such a big part of the Greensburg rebuilding! Here are a couple of videos on it: http://www.greensburgfilm.com/ http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/05/04/nguyen.greensburg.goes.green.cnn

Pajama Party!

Last night I watched one of Shilah's friends from playgroup-- she's about 4 months older than Shilah. They had so much fun together! I can't wait for full-fledged slumber parties, as I remember how much fun I used to have :)

Just playing and having fun...

Shilah was very excited to stay up late with her friend before her parents picked her up. I tried to get them to lay down and go to sleep, but do three-year-olds really ever sit still when they're together? Here they are snuggling in with some popcorn and a movie...

Tune in tomorrow!

Don't forget to watch a special on Greensburg, Kansas on Discovery Channel's Planet Green tomorrow evening! http://planetgreen.discovery.com/tv/greensburg/
This special focuses on the town's destruction from the tornado one year ago, and there will also be an introduction to the town's rebuilding. The reality show documenting this rebuilding will air in June. Shanti may or may not be in tomorrow's special, so watch closely to find out!
Unfortunately, we don't get cable TV, so we will probably be just playing. Here are Shilah and Serena "wrestling" together...

As a side note to the post titled "Nature," we saw both a bear and an elk cross the road as we were driving down the mountain this morning. Very cool!
