Wild Animal Sanctuary
We drove about an hour north of Denver to see this amazing place, spanning 7200 acres! It is a public non profit founded in 1980. Animals come to the sanctuary after being rescued by law enforcement agencies when they discover them being abused, abandoned, malnourished, or illegally kept. This sanctuary does not breed or sell animals, nor are the animals used for commercial purposes. New animals are kept in smaller cages until they become adapted to their new environment & companions, then are allowed in the larger enclosures. Specific stories on some of the animals are posted on the placards, and it was so sad to read about how many of them came from circuses or from homes of people who thought they could keep them as "pets." They all seemed so happy in their environments, especially the playful bears!
